# Treasury

The treasury is the protocol's balance sheet, held in the **FeeVault** contract and managed by a multisig with a timelock.

## What the treasury receives

* **Trading fees** — continuously, from every trade.
* **Resolve surplus** — when a market resolves with more reserve than needed to pay winners.
* **Market-creation fees** and **API metering** revenue (when enabled).

## What the treasury does

* **Insures markets** — covers bounded shortfalls when a market resolves (see [Insurance Mechanism](/documentation/economics/insurance-mechanism.md)).
* **Funds protocol operations** — keeper gas, development, maintenance.
